This Privacy Policy describes how Snippet ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, processes, and protects your information when you download and use our mobile application and related services. We are committed to transparency and honoring your privacy rights.
1. Overview & App Identification
This Privacy Policy applies specifically to the Snippet mobile application (also distributed under the package identifier com.stackmassage.stackmassage) published on the Google Play Store.
Snippet is a social discovery, video, shorts, and curated article reading platform allowing users to share content, follow creators, participate in categories, and engage in one-on-one and group messaging.
By downloading, accessing, or using Snippet, you acknowledge that you have read and understood the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue using the application.
2. Information We Collect
We collect information in three categories: data you provide directly, content you publish or transmit, and data collected automatically to ensure system performance.
A. Information You Provide to Us
- Account Registration: When you sign up via Email or Google Sign-In, we collect your email address, display name, user ID, and profile picture avatar.
- Profile Details: Bio, username/handle, chosen interests, and topic preferences selected during onboarding.
- Communications: Direct feedback, support tickets, and content reports you submit to our administrative team.
B. User Generated Content (UGC) & Interactions
- Posts, Shorts & Articles: Text, media thumbnails, video files, captions, and tags you publish to categories or profile feeds.
- Stories: Ephemeral photo or short video stories uploaded to the story strip.
- Engagement: Upvotes, likes, bookmarks/collections, comments, and following/follower relationships.
- Direct & Group Chat Messages: Text messages, shared articles, and voice notes transmitted inside chat rooms. Chat messages are delivered to intended recipients via Cloud Firestore.
C. Technical & Diagnostic Information
- Device Information: Device model, operating system version, screen resolution, and language settings.
- Log & Diagnostics: Anonymous crash reports, connection latency, and performance data collected to prevent app crashes and optimize 60fps feed scrolling.
3. Android Device Permissions
Snippet requests specific runtime permissions on Android devices. Each permission is requested strictly at the moment it is needed for user-initiated actions:
Camera Access
Allows you to take live photos or record video clips directly within Snippet to post as stories, video posts, or your profile avatar.
Microphone Access
Required when you record video stories with sound or record voice audio notes to send to other users in direct or group messaging.
Media & Photo Library
Permits selecting pre-existing images, cover photos, or video recordings from your device gallery to publish to Snippet.
Push Notifications
Delivers timely alerts when someone sends you a message, comments on your article, or when an author you follow publishes content.
You may grant or revoke any of these permissions at any time in your device's Settings > Apps > Snippet > Permissions.
4. How We Use Your Information
We process your information for the following legitimate purposes:
- Providing Service Functionality: Creating your account, rendering the Home and Article feeds, streaming video and shorts, facilitating chats, and maintaining collections.
- Personalization: Recommending relevant categories and feeds based on your joined topics and followed accounts.
- Safety & Moderation: Preventing spam, fraud, abusive behavior, and enforcing our community guidelines against prohibited content.
- Performance Optimization: Monitoring system uptime, reducing network latency, and debugging client crashes.
5. Third-Party Service Providers
Snippet relies on trusted cloud infrastructure provided by Google to deliver reliable, scalable, and secure functionality:
Google Firebase (Google LLC)
We use Firebase Authentication for secure sign-in, Cloud Firestore for encrypted cloud database storage, and Firebase Cloud Storage for media assets. Google processes data in accordance with the Google Privacy Policy.
Google Play Services
Provides fundamental app security, in-app updates, and push notification transport.
We do not integrate third-party data broker SDKs or cross-app ad tracking networks.
7. Data Retention & Account Deletion
We retain personal data only as long as your account remains active or as needed to provide our services. You have the right to request full erasure of your account and all associated data at any time.
Google Play Account Deletion Policy Compliance
In compliance with Google Play Store policies, users can request account and data deletion both inside the app and via our web portal:
Upon confirmed deletion request, your profile, authentication records, uploaded media files in Firebase Storage, and published posts are permanently purged within 30 calendar days.
8. Data Security
We enforce administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information:
- All client-server communication is encrypted using industry-standard TLS/SSL (HTTPS).
- Database access is guarded by granular Cloud Firestore security rules that authenticate caller tokens.
- Media assets are hosted on secure Firebase Storage buckets with restricted upload permissions.

10. Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)
Snippet is intended for a general audience aged 13 years and older (or 16 in the European Economic Area). We do not knowingly solicit or collect personal information from children under 13.

We may update this policy periodically to reflect operational changes, security enhancements, or legal regulations. When material modifications occur, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document and notify users through an in-app notice where feasible.
